Tension flared on a busy downtown street late Saturday afternoon when a routine police stop escalated into a confrontation that ended with a 17-year prison sentence for a local man.
According to authorities, the incident began when officers from the city’s patrol division approached a 28-year-old African American man in connection with a reported disturbance outside a convenience store.
