A Nelson County mother who admitted to killing her 6-week-old baby has been sentenced to three and a half years in prison.
A judge sentenced Autumn Woods on Friday after she pleaded guilty in February to voluntary manslaughter and child abuse.
In December 2024, officers responded to a call and found the baby blue and bleeding from the mouth. Woods told officers the baby had been sleeping on the couch with her, then later with the child’s father.
The cause of death was ruled suffocation, and the baby had multiple previously broken ribs.
The judge sentenced Woods to 10 years, with six and a half years suspended.
The baby’s father, Ethan Garfield, is set for a plea Monday to second-degree murder and felony child abuse.
